No one knows how to make a scrapbook kit look good quite like Valerie O’Neall. So we’re lucky that she’s on the LBD Kit Club design team, aren’t we? Check out this months’ featured layout from Valerie O’Neall, the No. One 12×12 Layout:

I adore Valerie’s use of the chevron in various sizes, patterns and colors to create the central circle pattern for this layout. The addition of snowflakes cut out of vintage book pages break up the pattern and add a little something extra to the finished page. I love the multiple photos that tell the story and the way Valerie titled the page and mimicked her placement of the photos inside a circle at the same time with the “ONE” card.

Valerie always sends in layouts that are simply the most fun! And this one is no exception. Valerie created this scrapbook page using the Little Black Dress Kit Club April 2013 scrapbook kit. We call it Don’t Worry Be Happy and it makes us appreciate this layout from Valerie even more due to the fact that this Jump layout is one of those perfect moments when worrying is the furthest thing from anyone’s mind.

Amazing parts of the scrapbook page include, but are not limited to: the Rummikub piece used so perfectly for titling/journaling, the green paint misted on the top right, the doodling, the book page as matte, the candy cane striped embroidery thread, the star pattern circles embedded in the blue polkas along the top of the page, etc. Valerie has a definite knack for making every project special. We love that about her.

If you have an Uncle like mine then you know that they’re simply the best. So it’s not surprising when they crop up in some pretty great moments in our lives. And since those are the moments that we like to remember…they crop up in the scrapbooking albums frequently as well!

What do I love most about this layout Valerie put together? It’s hard to say because she always creates something that is well worth loving (and looking at again and again, over and over). Here are a few things we think should definitely be taken into account by anyone checking out Valerie’s latest 12×12 layout:

the patterned stitching (same color as the background page, but offering a great basis for well placed journaling, etc.)

the colorful paint splatters

the Freckled Fawn wood embellishment cartoon bubble

the combo pattern circle matte and embellishments (love that she mixed the patterned paper together)

the pen sketches/doodles as borders around the circles

Project Life! You can’t turn a corner in the scrapbooking industry without hearing all about it. Except that if you haven’t actually delved in, you may be just nodding your head and smiling when the topic comes up and wondering…WHY PROJECT LIFE? Get the nitty, gritty details and see some examples from some of the Little Black Dress Kit Club design team members today. And you can stop acting like your favorite aunt who refuses to admit that she can’t hear as well as she used to the next time the subject comes up. Instead you’ll actually be able to jump in with your own opinion and support of this new scrapbooking method!

Why Project Life? To get you the good stuff we checked out the info provided by the creator of the popular new scrapbooking method (Becky Higgins). Here’s the gist of what she had to say about the new scrapbooking craze!

“Project Life is a back-to-basics approach to memory-keeping. This system is so simple, that it’s revolutionary,” Becky Higgins said.

The most popular reasons behind the instantaneous LOVE of Project Life amongst scrapbookers everywhere are:

  • Less Stress
  • Less Time Invested in Individual Projects
  • New Skills to Learn and Enjoy
  • Less Guilt
  • More Value
  • Cheap Therapy

Need more info? Read on…and then, check out Project Life projects from the LBD design team members! You’ll love it! And it will get you inspired to get your own Project Life moving!

Most see Project Life as a scrapbooking solution. It makes the process more simple and lets scrapbookers and memory keepers have more time to spend making memories rather than devoting every last second to preserving the ones already captured digitally. There’s no glue, scissors, tools, or fancy crafting skills necessary. (Can you say, Ahhhhh). This is not only a great decrease in stress levels for beginners and veteran scrapbookers alike, but it’s a money saver. How many of you have ever added up how much you’ve spent purchasing glue and adhesives throughout a busy scrapbooking year? (I don’t actually recommend doing it. It’s oddly disturbing. That was simply rhetorical. Just know that you don’t want to know).

The benefits of Project Life scrapbooking come from the design of the products. They take the guess work out of the layout design. Scrapbookers get to focus on recording their special moments with photos and journaling. It’s a new method that’s bringing us full circle; back to the beginning where it all began. That said, the design is trendy and styling. It means the opportunity to create more pages in less time.

The creator of Project Life was obviously inspired by her personal life. She’s a busy mom and wife who has been heavily involved in scrapbooking and knows the amount of time required for dedication in this particular industry. She named it Project Life because it’s designed to be all about LIFE. And not just any life, but YOUR LIFE. It’s whatever you need it to be; because everyone’s life is going to be different; different people, different memories, different life stages, different circumstances, different lifestyles, etc. Regardless of who, when or where you are…Project Life makes it easier to get your photos, journaling and memories…into a book!

Consider trying it if you haven’t yet…it’s said to be the best way to stop connecting scrapbooking with the guilt on never getting it all done! It gives you freedom. And once you’re at that moment when you feel more free than guilty…you’ll be able to see just how creative and fabulous you can be! It can be as simple or as intensely crazy creative as you want; depending on your mood and your time requirements! That’s why so many people love it.

That said…there are plenty of Project Life products out there as well as products by varying designers that coordinate and fulfill Project Life requirements. The method is taking over the world…once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll see just how versatile it can be!

If you haven’t received your March 2013 scrapbook kit or you haven’t ordered it yet, you’re in for some fun! This month’s kit is called A Chance for Luck and you’ll feel your luck change as soon as you have it in hand. At Little Black Dress Kit Club we adore the mini album. So you can imagine how excited we were to see one of our LBD Kit Club Design Team Members sent in this adorable take on the mini album using the March 2013 monthly kit. There’s something about tiny things…they’re just cuter! Tiny feet are cuter than big feet. Tiny fruit are somehow more precious and adorable than regular sized fruit. Tiny books have a special quality that big books can’t hope to attain. It’s just a phenomenon that can’t be exactly pinned down. It’s best just to accept it.

The Hello Dear Mini Album by Valerie O’Neall:

Still not sure that you can get “on board” with corrugated cardboard as a staple in your scrapbooking supply. Use number 5,423: mini album cover of any size/shape. Don’t you just adore the sweet title embellishment Valerie created with a bit of trim, some stitching and a couple banner shaped embellishments from this month’s kit? Love it.

If you have a typewriter at home (or at a friend’s house…scrappers are good sharers), try using it to create custom “tags” and embellishments that fit right in with purchased scrapbooking items. The typewriter font is to die for right now. OR you can download a good typewriter font on your computer and get the look minus the texture that old school typing will add to your scrapbook papers.

Who says photos have to be the centerpiece for every scrapbook project? Words are amazing things…they can paint a picture so quickly if you pick the right ones. Here you can see how Valerie used her chosen cutting machine to create “baby girl” in a great font, and then stitch it directly to the mini album page. Love that little bit of pink thread!

Pockets and envelopes! I have an unhealthy love of them. One of my favorite mini album projects ever was an entire book (mini, but still) created from envelopes. I guess it’s the “secret” potential that they offer. Plus, it’s like the old pop up books with all the inserts and pull outs, etc. back in the days of my lovely childhood. Good stuff comes out when you pull on a tab, right?

Ack! Completely adore this miniscule page in Valerie’s mini album. The page covered in stamped quote look is fabulous. And to top it off with the threaded tag with the teeny heart is simply sweet and perfect for the gorgeous little project Valerie created here.

Must every baby book make me tear up? I love when moms and dads (and siblings, for that matter) record their thoughts and feelings and beliefs in connection to new little ones. On a scrapping note, make sure to check out how this page coincides the previous “word filled” page – coordinating font/color/page layout/pink thread, but notice how it’s just different enough to make its own mark on the mini album with the pink thread bordering the right side of the page this time as well as anchoring the words in the top left corner. I also adore the inclusion of a little bit of hand writing here. This is such an amazing project! Thanks for sharing Valerie.
