It’s tons of fun! Don’t miss it. :)

There are some moments, memories, relationships, places…that just need to be remembered. And that’s what scrapbooking is all about. Sometimes it can be devilish fun to go really, really overboard on a page or a project; spending far more time than you should and in some cases…using far more products than you should. (It’s been said that I can overdo things.) :)

But it’s not always necessary. There’s nothing wrong with seeing an idea; a subtly beautiful layout for instance and making that idea your own. Give it a try with Terena’s You + Me 12×12 layout using the Little Black Dress July kit, Not Just Navy.

Check it out here: Tales from the Teal Side of Life

Or read on for Terena’s instructions:

12x12 You + Me layout by Terena, July Kit project idea

Here are instructions on how I put together Lexi and Blackmail layout.
I started out with Kaisercraft Victorian Rose. I then took black paint and made numerous paint lines on the paper. I used the edge from the Sassafras paper as a border under the picture. I took the Basic Grey Orange Smoothie paper and detail cut out one section that I liked. I also detail cut out October Afternoon Good Junk for the Black edge on the side of the layout.
I added a cardstock sticker from Glitz (you & me). I added a large bling and two brads to the Basic Grey cut-out that I did. The offwhite brads don’t show up really good on this picture.
Papers that I used from July Little Black Dress kit:
    Basic Grey – Orange Smoothie
    Kaisercraft – Victorian Rose
    October Afternoon – Good Junk
Sassafrass Lass Rose Thicket Woodland Whimsy

Tip: for the detailed cutting out – use a really good pair of fine tip scissors!
    Don’t forget to journal!

Road Trip 12x12 Layout: April's Vintage Sunshine Kit Project Idea

This layout has one very amazing feature that has to be mentioned right away…it was made from the Kit scraps. That’s right. Save this layout for last. Then grab all your Vintage Sunshine kit scraps of paper and cut them all into 4″ squares. You’ll need 9 squares.

Create your entire background out of your squares. Make sure they’re all glued on really well. Back your 4×6 photo on a piece of white cardstock. Trim it closely. Then ink the edges with teal. Then back your backed photo with another piece of white cardstock. This time leave a wide border on the top and left sides. The top border should be 1 to 1.5 inches. The left side border should be at least 2 inches. On the right side tuck a strip of Jenni Bowlin Bingo Alpha tiles under your photo between the two layers of white cardstock so that it sticks out just a bit.

Above your picture on the white cardstock you’ll place Yellow alpha stickers spelling out “Sometimes.” But there’s a trick. Before you place them on you need to ink them with teal. They’re canvas textured so they soak it up. The white cardstock to the left of your photo is for journaling. Ink the outer edges of the white cardstock with black.

Glue your backed photo on your page. Place it about 1″ from the right side of the layout. And about 2.5 inches from the top.

Make a paper flower. You’ll cut three paper circles of varying sizes. The largest is approximately 2 to 2.5 inches and it is cut from the graphic novel page. The next, slightly smaller circle is cut from Pink Paislee Front Porch. Cut the edges into a tiny, scalloped pattern and ink the edges yellow. The next (slightly smaller again) paper circle is cut out of Jenni Bowlin Bingo Alpha tiles. Ink the edges teal.

Crinkle all your papers a bit and then glue your flower together. Use one of your mirrors or buttons to create a flower center. If you use a mirror for your center you can add some extra bling using the clear rhinestone strip included in your Prima yellow Alpha stickers set. Just circle it around the edge of the mirror. Last cut two leaves from corrugated cardboard and insert them under your flower along the right side and bottom of the photo. Your flower should be glued right at the bottom right hand corner of your photo.

Along the right hand side of your photo use your yellow Alphas (yellow this time) to journal the name of the individual in the photo. Throw a couple rhinestone brads (Making Memories) on either side of the word “sometimes” and you’re ready to finish it off with a bit of sanding in the right places. We also made sure to incorporate some of our fun leftover items. You’ll notice that we used our Fragile sticker, an October Afternoon Wild Card Report Card, and authentic work order forms.

And that’s that! What a fabulous layout made of scraps, right? This particular designer came up with 7 layouts out of her April Kit. Isn’t that amazing?

Baby Blues 12x12 Layout: April's Vintage Sunshine Kit Project Idea

The Baby Blues 12×12 layout starts with a full sheet of Graphic 45′s Child’s Play. The newsprint side will show as the background for your layout. Next cut an 8″x8″ square of Sassafras Lass Secret Garden paper. Ink the edges black. Place your first 4×6 print in the top left corner of your Sassafras Lass Secret Garden 8″ square.

Ink the edges of one of your October Afternoon Report Card Wild Cards. Set it aside. Next take your second 4×6 print and trim it to approx. 4″x4″. Back it with more of the Sassafras Lass Secret Garden paper, but so that the back, striped side shows for 1/4″ along the edges of your picture.

Take the picture you’ve just backed and the October Afternoon Report Card Wild Card you inked and you are going to place the picture in the bottom right corner of your 8″ square. The Report Card Wild Card from October Afternoon will layer underneath the left side of your picture. At the top left corner of your Wild Card you will tuck your circle of yellow tulle. Fold it in half several times until you have a triangle of several layers of tulle and you tuck it under the corner of your October Afternoon card and glue it securely.

Cut a 4″ strip of corrugated cardboard and place it along the left edge of the Secret Garden square where the first 4×6 photo was placed originally. You’ll staple the corrugated cardboard behind the Secret Garden paper so that it sticks out 1/4″. Ink the edge of the corrugated cardboard with your favorite inking tool in black.

Use your Prima yellow alpha stickers to spell Baby on a piece of corrugated cardboard and then trim it to frame the alphas. Use two small pieces of corrugated cardboard in the place of “pop dots” in order to allow you to glue the corrugated cardboard piece with the word “baby” on it to your layout and give it some depth. You’ll place it centered on the top of the October Afternoon card with just a bit of the card showing at the top.

Next take your Jenni Bowlin Bingo Card and cut out alphas to spell out “BLUES” underneath “baby.” You’ll use your corrugated cardboard again to make the letters pop off the page and add depth to your layout.

Next cut a strip of corrugated cardboard (8″x2″ worked for us). This will go alongside your Secret Garden 8″ square for journaling.

Glue your Secret Garden 8″ square onto the full sheet of Graphic 45 Child’s Play (newsprint side up). Place it approximately 1/2″ from the left side of the paper and 2″ down from the top. Glue your journaling strip made of corrugated cardboard along the right hand side.

Take your Pink Paislee rubons and add some Polka Dot line borders along the edges of your pics and layers randomly. We did a little bit at the very top right edge of the Secret Garden square, along the right hand side of the bottom picture, and along the edges of the bottom left corner of the Secret Garden square. Last you ink the edges of the full page with a black inking tool or stamp pad. And you’re all set. Don’t forget to actually add your journaling!
