Folder Project by Valerie

I put together a handy little “good to know” folder this month with the Heidi Swapp file folder included in July’s kit. It has room for all that handy information you might need for an emergency, and would be especially helpful for a baby-sitter.

First I decorated the outside of my folder. I used mists by Maya Road Studio Calico. I let them dry a bit and then wiped down the folder with a paper towel to reveal the resist area. You will need two baseball card trading card protectors (available at most craft & hobby stores) along with your file folder. I simply cut the third column off the protector and it’s the perfect size.

Then I took a couple strips of washi and taped the page protector down along the side that I want to sew down. Tape down and sew the back page first. Once that’s done, add the front sheet, tape it down, and sew along the edge. I used washi tape because it comes up cleanly and won’t tear the folder.

Next I went to the computer and made a document for the inserts. You can download my document HERE. **(for personal use only).

Print it out on some pretty patterned paper included in the kit, write in your info, cut to size, and you’ve got a great little organized folder with all your important info. …And pretty enough to display on the refrigerator!

The Birthday should be all about the Birthday Girl. And that goes for any scrapbook layout documenting the fabulous day and related events. This leaves a bit of a problem when it comes to making sure that all the birthday GUESTS get their little spot in the album. Keri Babbitt has offered us the perfect solution using the July 2012 It’s My Party kit (and specifically the Heidi Swapp file folder included in the kit).

Check out the Birthday Girl 12×12 Layout and Keri’s ingenious use of the file folder (from this month’s Little Black Dress Kit Club’s kit) to give the Birthday guests all the face time in the album you could ever want without taking any of the “special” attention away from the birthday girl:

Aww…is there anything more adorable than a little girl who knows just how special she is when she wakes up on her birthday? I love it. And I absolutely lOvE LoVE LOVE how Keri brought that birthday “special” right onto this layout. Her us of the trims and the papers and that awesome paper bow and the alphas and the huge numbers all came together to make this a layout completely worthy of this little princess’s BIG day.

Closeup Alert:

And then…you get to open it up and see her tribute to the celebration and all those who attended said birthday girl’s PAR-TAY! It’s so fun, I’ll stop talking about it and simply let you see it for yourself:

I’ll say it again, AWWWW….I adore this layout, the secret foldout layout and the entire idea. I’ve never seen a better or more adorable method of documenting all the friends of the birthday girl that came out to celebrate and party the day away. Thanks for sharing it with us, Keri!

Get outside! How many of us have thought this at some point in our lives? Sometimes we’re thinking about ourselves after we’ve been working (at home or in the office) for FAR too long. Sometimes we’re thinking this on behalf of our kids (or our sister’s kids or our neighbor’s kids or a stranger’s kids…depending on how far your nose reaches). But no matter who the thought was directed, you recognize the sentiment. So the phrase won’t surprise you when you see it on Jenni Calma’s In the Garden 12×12 Layout:

What you might find yourself envying is the fact that for these little kiddoes, getting outside means being “In the Garden.” Such a lovely option (especially for those of us living in a desert region, sigh). But regardless of your garden ownership (or lack of garden ownership), this layout is fabulous. Some of our favorite elements are: the way the photos are actually displayed on the page (love the borders and the 1/2 layout), the tag tucked in and used for journaling, the detailed stitching (look closely, you’ll see it, too), the lovely banner (ooooh, I adore it) and the circle cutouts accented by buttons (also circles, of course).

Check out a closeup or two:

Here you can see the banner up close and personal as well as the gorgeous title, the supporting (stamped on) subtitle, the button accenting a small circular cutout providing the basis for the left side of the banner, the fantastic detail in the left, top corner that you couldn’t truly appreciate in the first picture, the sweet hummingbird that fits right into the overall layout.

This 12×12 layout submitted by Jenni Calma was put tougher using the July 2012 It’s My Party scrapbook kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club and it is full of teeny little surprises that you simply have to take note of…like the straight stitch along the bottom right corner that accents the strip of gray, the spot of red and adds a little fun by throwing that zig and zag in there in the middle. Look closely and you’ll find many more tiny little additions to the page just as lovely and fun. Jenni’s In the Garden 12×12 Layout is a lesson in detail and having them all come together beautifully.

Thanks Jenni! Watch for more of her projects coming soon here, on Facebook and on Pinterest.

The It’s My Party scrapbook kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club in July 2012 has plenty of color and we love how Ginny chose to “work it” in this 12×12 layout dubbed the 123 12×12 Layout by Ginny Hughes:

Like all scrapbooking products, the neon photo corners included in the July 2012 kit have found many uses in the hands of our brilliant designers. We love how Ginny used them as embellishments here creating a grouping really changes the look and is reminiscent of the popular chevron pattern. Never skip over the closeups:

I also adored how Ginny used the vintage look, large scale numbers included in the kit to create a storyboard for her journaling. 1 fine summer day 2 sweet sisters 3 more to come. :D It made me smile because it gave me a real peek into the moment being captured.

Other elements we loved about this page: the paint used on the page (the splatter look goes so well with the neon coloring of the photo corners), the use of small spots of extreme color against the white background and b/w photo in the focal point of the layout, the way Ginny matted the entire layout giving it a frame of color that echoes the frame of color around the b/w photo.

We love it, Ginny! Thanks for always giving us fun ideas and inspiring and projects study each month.
