July Kit Project Ideas

The Snorkeler layout was one of my favorites and now Amy’s put together step by step instructions for all of you. You are SO lucky!

Additional items needed to complete this project:
- Jumbo Flower punch (EK Success)
- Lg Flower Punch (EK Success)
- Small Flower Punch (Martha Stewart)
-1/2″ corner rounder (Fiskars)
- twine
1) Use the green patterned paper as your base page.
2) Trim out the blue polka dot sheet and the numbers patterned paper as a background for your photo. Adhere.
3) Trim off the die cut scallop from the SL patterned paper. Adhere orange striped ribbon and the scalloped edging to the patterned paper that was just adhered in #2.
4) Using a zig zag stitch on your sewing machine, stitch the top of the blue polka dot paper and the bottom edge of the numbers paper.
5) Trim and adhere SL cardstock stickers to the left edge of the page.
6) Punch out a variety of sizes and coordinating colors of flowers and layer as desired. Adhere together. On one of the flowers I used a large red sequin under the small flower to create dimension as well as slight glimmer under the small flower. Adorn the centers of the flowers with threaded buttons or vintage goodies.
Tip: Use the negative space from your punches whenever possible. I used one above the photo that gives the sillohette of another flower without all the layers, thus making the layout a little bit lighter but keeping the theme.
7) Take a journaling tag from the SL cardstock stickers and using your MLS orange stickers write up your journaling bullet points. Adorn with threaded buttons. Adhere to layout. Adhere your flowers made in #6 to the layout in a variety of places in the layout, clustering around the journaling tag.
8) Using your Thickers, create a unique title for your layout by following the lines of the patterned paper. Remember to look and use all the negative space around each letter to create a more cohesive title.
9) Use scraps to adorn the top left corner. Use your MLS stickers to apply the date of your photo to the layout. Finish off the layout with any final threaded buttons as needed.

There are some moments, memories, relationships, places…that just need to be remembered. And that’s what scrapbooking is all about. Sometimes it can be devilish fun to go really, really overboard on a page or a project; spending far more time than you should and in some cases…using far more products than you should. (It’s been said that I can overdo things.)

There’s always some reason popping up for greeting cards. Whether it’s a birtday, a graduation, mother’s day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or just a really bad day for a really good friend…keeping greeting cards of all types on hand can be come in very…well, handy. So it’s just perfect that we’ve got such fabulous examples of greeting card projects to share with all of you.

Several of the LBD Design Team Members sent in greeting card projects this month. Some of the most striking were the easel cards Jan sent in (they’re above). Such a fabulous idea. They’re a mix between a greeting card and home decor.

  it’s always fun to incorporate a ribbon tie on a greeting card. Good thing all the Little Black Dress Kit Club kits all come with a variety of trims.

 Corrugated cardboard is a great basis to add to a greeting card. It gives it substance and fun at the same time. And plus…we’re a little obsessed with the sheer versatility of the stuff…that’s why it’s in every kit.

 B is For Boy Greeting Card…it’s always so much harder to put together a fantastic “boy-based” card. But this one is a great example:

Cathleen (LBD Design Team Member) had a fabulous idea  sent in with all her projects this month. We’re going to show them all to you, of course, but FIRST…this just seems like a very appropriate summer project.

Cathleen put together a terrific recipe book. If you love mini albums and want to do a twist on the traditional project then you’ve got to check out Cathleen’s Rub a Dub Dub:

Gather together your favorite rubs, sauces and marinades and create your own version of Cathleen’s Rub a Dub Dub book!

 Make each page different. Cathleen used scraps!

Here are a couple tips Cathleen sent for anyone who wants to give it a try:

The only 2 tips I have is that first, I used scraps – it was the last project I made. And, second, there’s a secret to printing on labels – especially coated ones:
1. Measure the space of the label and figure out how your printing should run.
2. Print out a sample on a plain piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
3. Adhere your label onto the 8 1/2 x 11 paper exactly where the printing is and run the paper through your printer again.
4. On coated labels (like the ones in the July kit) spray the printed label with clear acrylic sealer.
5. Let the labels dry, and they’re ready to use on your project.
