May 2012: Time Flies

Have we mentioned lately that more is almost ALWAYS better? At least that’s what I believe. That’s just one of the MANY, MANY reasons why I love the Supplies 12×12 layout Keri Babbitt put together using the May 2012 Time Flies kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club. I always love what goes on in the heads of the design team here at LBD Kit Club, but this particular layout calls out to me in so many ways. And all of them are based on the fact that MORE is simply a good thing in my mind. I love that Keri is obviously encourages her kids to love the need for “more” supplies each school year. I hold a similar love of the restocking of general school supplies each and have no idea what I will do when I have no need for lined notebook paper on a regular basis. I love that Keri shows just how much using MORE color can do for the end result of a fun layout. This layout has the color to draw the eye of even the most ADD friend or family member. I love that Keri shares my love for MORE embellishments. Try to pick your favorite. You won’t be able to do it. Try to decide which one you’ll leave off when you make your own version of Keri’s layout. You’ll have a really hard time deciding and you’ll like your layout a little less because it isn’t as “MORE” as Keri’s. Lastly, and possibly most importantly, Keri created the perfect example of creating additional (or MORE) scrapping space on a 12×12 layout by incorporating a perfect foldout for additional photos and journaling. Are you completely intrigued and want to see MORE? (Insert respectful snicker here). Alright…read on. Pictures are coming right up.

Keri Babbitt’s Color Magic Supplies 12×12 Layout using the May 2012 Kit from LBD Kit Club, Time Flies:

Do you see what I mean? There’s so much to love that it’s hard to decide where to start! I’ll tell you a few things I love and then you can tell me a few things you love and we’ll move on from there. I love the addition of the pink grid under the photo matting at the top and bottom of the page. I love Keri’s use of the various trims (tied around the photo…umm LOVE it!) and along the bottom in an array of fun patterns and paper cutouts for a fantastic finished layered look. And…I can’t not mention how fun it is that she used her stitching to attach the trim under the photo and even threw in a few gathers on the left side. It makes me smile and love when a project makes someone looking at it smile.

Time for CLOSE UPS! You love it even more now, don’t you? It’s much easier to see the fun gathers in the trim, some of the more detailed paper patterns, the dimension that she created on the page with the popped photo and layering, etc. and the use of product packaging. I love when the packaging of our scrapbook products can actually be used in the course of a project. Can you find the product packaging Keri put to use here? It fit in perfectly!

And here you can see the crazy and wild and inspired foldout that Keri created under her photo. Do you love it as much as I do? It’s so much more fun when you have room to tell the entire story and provide a full photo montage. I so approve of Keri’s layout. I so approve of her beautiful girl’s back to school choices…Hello Kitty is always a fabulous decision.

We adore chevron patterns. They are so fun and they add a lot without doing a lot so no one is overwhelmed by their presence no matter how bold, bright and strong the colors and/or pattern might be. With the Little Black Dress Kit Club May Time Flies scrapbook Kit, members received plenty of Chevron to work with. Here’s a little bit of Chevron love from our very own design team member here at LBD Kit Club, Ginny Hughes:

That Face Scrapbook Layout by Ginny Hughes:

I love the polka dots against the Chevrons and I love the overlapping heart border and I love the sketchy border, and I love the combination of alphas. Not to mention that photo. It’s fabulous! It’s always so much fun to create a layout around a fantastic photo.

Check out the closeups:

And another layout featuring a strong Chevron pattern that we know you’ll just love…also from Ginny Hughes coming up next!

I completely adore the combination of blacked edges on the photos (it looks like they were printed that way) and the stitched circular border. The way Ginny used her stitching to create a really strong border attach her title alphas, and give the page a lot of extra visual interest is completely fun and impressive. I like the use of the abbreviated months along the right side of the page to indicate the passage of time and I like that they are a contrasting color to the chevron pattern paper and I also love the dual photos. Great layout!

Don’t we all just love our fellow scrappers? Here at Little Black Dress Kit Club we do. It doesn’t matter if you scrapbook your kids, your work, your friends, your pets…we all have something to learn and the best way to do that is to see someone else doing it differently. That’s what’s so fun about doing a sketch challenge. One of our design team members, Keri Babbitt, put together a sketch this month…and that was the beginning of the May 2012 Sketch Challenge. Some of our designers put together 12×12 layouts and you’ll get to check them out today!

Keri Babbitt designed the sketch challenge:

She also created a 12×12 layout using the sketch. Valerie O’Neall and Ginny Hughes also put together layouts. (For more of any of the LBD Design Team Members access links to their own blogs/sites on the right of the blog roll). All of the gals used products from their May 2012 Time Flies scrapbook kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club for the sketch challenge. Each month’s kit is unique, but each month’s kit also contains a general supply of coordinating scrapbook paper, alphas, embellishments, trims and vintage miscellaneous items (that many claim are their favorite aspect of the entire monthly kit club). So consider that when you see the two following layouts using the same basic sketch idea and a cache of matching scrapbook products!

Valerie’s Potty Training 12×12 Layout:

Favorite aspects of this layout? The painted on pattern of circles, the spot of color from the title, the stitching on the photos, the embellishments and the outer edge of the page AND…the fact that her journaling is oh, so truthful. Potty training IS exhausting.

Now to check out Ginny’s masterpiece…

The Smile 12×12 Layout from Ginny:

Favorite aspects of this layout? The date stamping on the bottom left corner (simple and clever), the use of the almighty paper clip as a scrapbook embellishment (YES, use what you’ve got!), the buckled trim, the echoing of the “banner” look at the edge of the trim and in the “banners” at the top right of the page, and the use of a second paper to generate a border around the main 12×12 page.

And finally…back to the original design team gal, Keri Babbitt!

Keri created the Beauties 12×12 Layout for the May 2012 sketch challenge at Little Black Dress Kit Club:

Ahhh…So fun to see where all the ladies took the sketch, don’t you think? Keri utilized several different embellishments from the kit including the polaroid photo borders (Heidi Swapp), the amazing color absorbing alphas, and a variety of papers. I love the detail that Keri added by creating the two different types of circles as well as her use of the polaroid look mattes as journaling area. I also love that she threw in a couple pops of color amid her circle arrangement with teeny buttons.

As the name of this month’s scrapbook kit indicates, Time Flies! But sometimes we’re able to find moments of peace here and there when time may not actually stand still, but we at least feel like we can still for a moment or two and enjoy what’s happening in the here and now. Granted, these “times” of peace often occur when the children are strapped down in modern torture devices we call carseats and seat belts, but they don’t seem to mind too much and the mode of their torture also provides the taller people in the vehicle to enjoy some blaring tunes.

From those of us at Little Black Dress Kit Club to all of you…PEACE! Find some. LBD Kit Club Designer, Kim Stewart knows how to get some and she even has this little trained to enjoy the ride…peacefully!

I created several layers with this one and I included a hand cut arrow along with several layers of little ribbons and label stickers. I water colored the arrow for a nice ombre effect.  The little kraft bag can be used for hand written journaling or tickets or anything that you want to save with the layout.  My title was created using a letter stencil.
