June 2012 Less Work More Play

What a voice…listen to your soul. Two phrases that, individually, leave us intrigued, but together, they are the beginnings of a unique moment. And Valerie’s scrapbooking genius definitely brought one of those unique moments to life in this 12×12 layout using the Little Black Dress Kit Club June 2012 Less Work More Play scrapbook kit:

I love the sits of color Valerie has in this layout. The butterfly cutout, the tiny piece of diagonal teal striping paper, the double line of red stars, the green polka dot backing the title piece, the red circle on the tag included in the title layering. Voila! I feel like Valerie must have felt just like that when she completed this scrapbook page.

Gotta love the pieces that add a new dimension to the page and make it interesting from several angles.

I always adore Valerie’s scrapbook layouts, but this one is one of my favorites. For more of Valerie…visit the LBD Facebook page and the LBD Kit Club blog and Pinterest.

There’s nothing like getting out and experiencing new places and new things. We encourage travel. It’s lovely. It’s exciting. It’s relaxing. It’s satisfying. It’s momentous….it’s many things. But sometimes…travel is only one thing: not possible. Sometimes we have to stick a little closer to home. That’s when we recommend taking a page from Keri Babbitt’s scrapbook. If you can’t BE traveling, you can relive those fabulous memories of exotic or other, not so exotic, fantastic vacation spots.

Keri’s Location! Yes 12×12 Layout using the Little Black Dress Kit Club June 2012 scrapbook kit (Less Work and More Play):

I can’t even convey in writing how much I adore the journaling Keri added directly on the photo directly center on the 12×12 layout. The background paper Keri chose was, of course, perfect for the layout topic. I also love the chevron pattern backing the photo and bordering the bottom of the layout. And the red scalloped trim is the perfect final touch for the page.

Give me a Ride, Daddy! How many times do Dads across the world hear this phrase (granted, it’s not always English if we’re talking worldwide, but still). And while exasperation may register, and lack of sleep could pop up as a factor in the decision, in almost every instance, that request is met with a smile and a bit of a mood improvement.

And anything that can have that sort of positive result deserves to be immortalized on the scrapbook page!

Ginny Hughes Ride Scrapbook Layout using the June Less Work More Play Scrapbook Kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club:

What do I love about this page? I love the combo of polkas and stripes (and how the stripes are added to the page through a major polka addition of their very own). I love the bright colors and the layering and I love the combination of handwriting and Glitz Design alphas. I also love how Ginny finished off the page with the red/white embroidery thread in a  smart little bow atop the blue button.

And now for the closeups!

Flowers may not have always meant that you were loved, but I can’t remember a time when that’s not what it made me feel. There’s just something about hearing that there are “flowers for you” that makes your heart skip a little faster, not out of distress or panic, but because in the world of the fairy tale, the heart ran on love. While there aren’t any “fresh” flowers used on this scrapbook layout from Little Black Dress Kit Club design team member, Kim Stewart’s, she somehow managed to infuse the final 12×12 layout with life using her June 2012 scrapbook kit: Work Less Play More. It truly brings that feeling to life for you when you look at it…so, here are some flowers for you!

Flowers for You 12×12 Layout by Kim Stewart:

One aspect of this page that I can’t stop adoring is her combination of whimsy and order. I love it. I don’t think anyone would deny that the combination of colors, photo shape and placement, title, pattern combinations and embellishment choices and placement create an extremely lovely and whimsical page, but at the same time, you have order with a central focal point when considering the block of photos/papers as a whole, an obvious central theme for the scrapbook page, balanced placement, and the classic white 12×12 background page to really allow the variety of colors in the middle to pop out and grab all the attention for the black and white photos.

Flowers for you 12×12 layout -

For this layout I used several layers of patterned papers, crate and basic grey. I added a lot of dimension by layering things below my hand punched stamp square for a framed affect. For the top square I punch half circles all the way around to make it resemble a stamp.  Below it are a few fussy cut flowers, a watercolored card and paintchips. I always like to add something of my own to my layouts for more personality.

Items used, crate paper, basic grey paper, October afternoon 9-5 stickers.

Non kit items paintchips, pink clothespin

There are times when it’s important to focus on decreasing the amount of work we’re putting in because we need more time for play, but then…there are times when we’ve got the perfect balance. Then there are those times when we hate to admit it, but we’ve had work on the back burner for a bit too long and we just can’t stop PLAYING! But the best of times…the VERY best of times are those times when our work is our play.

That’s what Keri Babbitt’s The Office 12×12 Layout made me think of when it came through this month. Keri, one of the lovely Little Black Dress Kit Club Design Team Members, continues to provide us with the perfect combination of “vintage and modern.” Her latest scrapbook layout is the perfect commemoration of HER as she features her office. I don’t know about you, but the office space is a very telling spot for us here at LBD Kit Club. Use your Less Work More Play scrapbook kit to put together something showing off your work space and post it on the LBD Kit Club Facebook wall. We’d love to see all the different spaces and locations that are allowing scrappers across the world to have some fun Little Black Dress style.

The Office: 12×12 Layout by Keri Babbitt

I love Keri’s detailed cutout of the “office ladies!” It’s fabulous. And it made it just that much better that they’re popped out from the page and accented by her teal trimmed buttons (in varying colors) and backed by the solid cream circles against the very colorful green polka background. I love the amazing amount of color with snippets of neutral space thrown in. Keri has a knack for making all the colors seem even more colorful and vibrant.

Another closeup!

Journaling: “Love this space. My creative space. It’s so me.”

I love Keri’s concise journaling. It’s just what’s needed to make the page more meaningful without pulling away from the design of the layout and the photos. Thanks for sharing Keri! We love your work!
