August Kit Project Ideas

Watch for Little Black Dress in Creating Keepsakes Tips and Tricks Spring 2011 edition.

Ginger John’s Seriously 12×12 layout is featured in this edition of Creating Keepsakes. Ginger put together the layout using the September Sweet Elegance kit from Little Black Dress kit Club.

The magazine was featuring different trims that look fabulous on scrapbook layouts. Ginger’s embellishment cluster that is backed with some fabulous tulle from the September kit is featured here.

“Don’t take life so seriously” is the full title of Ginger’s 12×12 layout featured here. Some of the major page elements (that came from the kit, of course) are: the vintage community chest monopoly card (Bank error in your favor!!!), Dymo labeling in black used for journaling, a gorgeous Prima Marketing flower (in pink), American Crafts alphas that were originally cream that Ginger inked red for the layout, and a Webster’s cameo in cream that is just a gorgeous final touch.

Here’s a closeup of the fabulous embellishment…vintage book pages, Prima flower, Webster’s cameo, vintage buttons, white polka dot tulle and turquoise tulle…that’s a combo that will bring goosebumps!

Wanna make this 12×12 layout and feeling depressed that you just can’t believe that you missed out on some of the past Little Black Dress kits? Don’t despair…you may still have hope. Some of the past kits are still available. Check the inventory and see what’s left!

It’s a Good Day mini album by SarahBeth, August Kit project idea

Mini albums…they’re an obsession of mine. I think it’s for the same reason that itsy bitsy grapes are cute and tiny oranges are more fun to eat. Little stuff is just cuter than big stuff. (That’s obvious whenever I try on an outfit that drew my eye in a size 0).

So check out the latest mini album obsession. It’s called the “It’s a Good Day” mini album and it was put together using the August Little Black Dress Kit.

Here’s another view of the cover…

It's a Good Day mini album, august scrapbook kit project idea

We’ve all got good days and we’ve all got bad days. And there’s nothing more pleasurable than having a handy dandy notebook (or mini album in this case) filled with the good ones…laid out there with sweet journaled reminders so we can remember the good days we’ve had. The August kit was packed with vintage goodies that made it easy to make the pages fun and unique. A few favorite eclectic kit pieces included: the green houndstooth tissue paper, the wax and seal from 7 Gypsies, purple sequin strip, the myriad buttons, the trim…the list could go on for a while here.

But instead of continuing with my chatter… more pics!

This page commemorated a “good day” little boy style. The fact that they’re covered in mud means it HAD to be a good day, right? The background is a vintage book page and the photo is accented by a page length flower made of the red trim included in the kit, corrugated cardboard, more vintage book page, a red embroidered circle and a wooden bingo chip included in the kit.

It’s US (cut out of corrugated cardboard, no less) and any day we can get a photo of all of us together and all looking halfway decent, halfway “like” ourselves and halfway happy…it’s definitely a Good Day worthy of inclusion in the It’s a Good Day mini album.

Looking for a unique and fun way to journal an event that’s going to need more space than the normal tucked around the edge of the picture style? Try creating your own envelope and tucking a card inside with all your details. This one was accented with tons of vintage pieces and one of the Melody Ross cards included in the kit. They were amazing!

Day trip to the Dinosaur Park…this page layout used the map page included in the kit for the background and a mini vintage playing card as the foundation of the collection of “pendant style” sayings that were cut from the 12×12 page.

This page incorporateed a Melody Ross card (Embracing Change), the purple pearl trim, and the green houndstooth tissue paper (pleated for extra fun).

There were more pages in the book, of course…when it comes to the It’s a Good Day mini album…extravagance was the name of the game. One more page? Nah…let’s do 3 more. And next year I hope the It’s a Good Day mini album is even thicker!

If you are still wondering what to do with your August kit…Here are a few projects from LBD Design Team Member, May!

I absolutely adore the gorgeous butterfly additions. Check out the closeups above to get the full effect. And the journaling on this page is perfect! Such a sweet layout.

Hey Girlfriend 12x12 Layout by May, August kit project idea

What a great idea to use the wide brown lace as a background element! I especially love the look of it layered with the green houndstooth. Lovely!

It's Your World 12x12 layout by Terena, august kit project idea

We’ve still got more ideas to pass along! Check out a couple of Terena’s layouts and see if you can catch some inspiration for a project of your own!

It's Your World 12x12 Layout by Terena, August Kit project idea

I love the paper that Terena pulled from her August kit to make up the majority of this layout. It was one of my favorites in this month’s kit. She incorporated alphas made from corrugated cardboad, the green houndstooth tissue paper cut to serve as leaves for her paper flower (which I think turned out really beautifully) and a simple framing of the close up photo using the mini vintage dictionary page and a coordinating piece of paper from the kit (choose your own favorites if you’re going to give a similar layout a try).

American Beauty 12x12 Layout by Terena, august kit project idea

The most “stand out” portion of the American Beauty 12×12 layout (at least for me) was the cut out border. Terena did some pretty detailed cutting in order to use the Gypsy Sisters paper as the border around the outside of this layout. Look closely and see if you can see the detailed sanding that gives it a nice vintage feel.

Thanks for sharing your projects with all of us, Terena! We appreciate it!

Most of the time when Jan’s projects come in…I am just amazed at the detail. I usually have to zoom in to her pictures and study the details for a minute to truly appreciate all that is going on. And her August projects are no less gorgeous than normal. I hope you agree!

The last One 12x12 Layout by Jan, August Kit project idea

This is not only a fabulous layout, but it’s just extra special and needs to be mentioned that it is commemorating the “last” of a 5 month long chemo treatment that Jan has been going through and all the while she’s been sending in gorgeous layouts and projects. So here’s us officially saying, “Congratulations, Jan! We hope completing the ‘last one’ felt absolutely amazing!”

Edmonton 12x12 Layout by Jan H, august kit project idea

This is a fabulous layout for a classic scrapbooking topic: a trip. It doesn’t matter if it’s a week long vacation or a day trip. Sometimes they just need to be documented in an utterly fabulous fashion. And that’s something that Jan does very well.

Going Back in Time 12x12 Double Layout by Jan H, August Kit project idea

For those of you who love double layouts you’re in luck! I love the precision she shows in placing the photos as well as making the most of her embellishments. I also love the way she used the sequin strip on this page, giving the very classic page a flashy aspect. Check out the way she trimmed the edges of her sequin strip to change the look. :)

Our First Apartment 12x12 Layout by Jan H, August kit project idea

In Our First Apartment 12×12 Layout Jan used tons of paints and colors. And it had an amazing end result. The combo of corrugated cardboard and houndstooth tissue paper is excellent. It’s a great pairing of opposites that can really be appreciated on this page.

Moment in Time 12 x 12 layout by Jan H, august kit project idea

In pure Jan style this page is so amazing that you can’t even see all the detail without zooming in and studying it for a few minutes. The background plum page really accents the lighter colors used on the rest of the layout. We particularly love the journaling on the vintage jewelry receipt included in her August kit.

Altered art by Jan H, Life is Nice Watering Can, august kit project ideaThis gorgeous altered art from Jan was dubbed the Life is Nice watering can for obvious reasons. And I have to say when I’m looking at it…Life IS nice. I hope you agree. And check out the closeup of the paper flowers that Jan seems to specialize in!

If you don’t find Jan’s flowers amazing then you are not seeing them accurately. I suggest you zoom in. :) Because they are absolutely amazing! Watch for more of Jan’s amazing projects in upcoming posts!

Time 4 Yoghurt 12x12 Layout by Francine

It’s hard to even describe Francine’s project ideas, altered art, greeting cards and 12×12 layouts and actually do them justice…they are just that amazing. So it’s a good thing that she also takes amazing pictures! Scroll through her August kit projects and gather ideas. You’ll definitely find something to be excited about.

Greeting Cards, august kit project idea, by Francine

Do you love making greeting cards? Take a page from Francine’s book and access the utterly fabulous what not cards by Melody Ross that were included in the August kit. They make an amazing “start” to any greeting card.

Impromptu Photo Session 12x12 Layout by Francine, august kit project idea

One of the things that I love best about Francine’s layouts is that they always come off looking so clean. I love the white space on this particular layout. You’ll see that she used a series of pictures (adorable!) and accented with layers of product from the August Kit (kaiser craft rubons, vintage bingo card, melody ross epoxy stickers, green houndstooth tissue paper, red alphas by October Afternoon, and cutouts of a few of the more fabulous papers included in the August kit.
