Monthly Archives: March 2012

We’re egg-static. We’re more than egg-cited. We’re ga ga over all the fun we can have decorating those eggs that seem to be all over the place this time of year. Tips prior to decorating with your LBD scrapbook kit:

Make sure not to forget to hard boil them first.

Remember to be cautious in applying stickers, rub ons, etc. Hard boiled eggs still crack and can still be messy.

Add your base color first (you can use the natural look like Valerie used below or you can go with the white version of the egg and dip them in a liquid dye mixture. They’re available at nearly every retail outlet or you can look up ways to use products from your own pantry to create a cool “color” for your eggs).

Have a few kids on hand to be “egg-cited” about having an Easter egg hunt once your decorating is completed.

Also have a plan for what you’re going to do with all those hard boiled eggs after the fact. Egg salad sandwiches? Potato salad? Deviled eggs?

We challenged Valerie O’Neall, LBD Kit Club Design Team member, to show us what could be done with the March 2012 scrapbook kit, It’s Not a Fling in preparation for a traditional Easter egg hunt. Here’s what she came up with:

And…a close up for more ideas!

Love the cut outs and the use of the trim, and love the identifiers she added using a good scrapbook pen. There’s nothing more classic than an artist signing their work.

I love me some ice cream. It’s so yummy and tasty. My favorite? Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. It’s heavenly. But there are still things that I love even more. I think we can all agree. Ice cream is amazing and beautiful and lovely and tasty, but it just can’t replace some of those “other” things we love.

The I love You More than Ice Cream 12×12 scrapbook layout by Valerie O’Neall, Design Team Member here at Little Black Dress Kit Club:

I love you more than ice cream. That is saying SOOOO much. She must love you a lot, little man!

Favorite things about this scrapbook page? I love the combination of stamp, text, and alpha letters throughout the page. There are even a multitude of numbers added to the mix. It’s calls out to me; I just like it. I also like the frayed edges and the way she used a smattering of different papers and prints to create the background instead of one 12×12 page.

And, of course, the combination of photos and photo sizes always does a lot for the page. This is a great combo!

Little touches that add a lot of style: the trim used to make the bow a top the dangling banner (Oh happy day) and the button on the left of the words at the bottom of the photo montage.

Always check your Little Black Dress kit for the little nothings that add SO much to your projects! It’s important not to belittle the power of the “littles.” Watch for more projects from Valerie using the March 2012 It’s Not a Fling kit on the LBD Facebook page.

It’s been rumored that I’ve been 26 for a few years. In fact, some say they’ve somehow surpassed me in age. I can’t explain it so I won’t try. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t take photos of my next 26th birthday just like I did last year and the year before. In fact, this year, I might even take a page out of Valerie O’Neall’s book…

Valerie’s 26th Birthday 12×12 Layout:

What’s your favorite part of Valerie’s 26th Birthday 12×12 layout? She used different elements of the March kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club. (For details on exactly which pieces and supplies she used check the end of the blog post). My favorite part of the picture is the TEXTURE as well as the succinct way she presented her complete story in her journaling/title: celebrating 26 years at 25 years pregnant. That’s a moment that deserved its own page.

I love the birthday wishes Valerie added on the top right corner of the photos. And I love the pop of pink in the pink numbers and the fact that they pop even more because they are on the manilla tag. Also note the trim used to tie on the tag and the various “dots” that were added!
