Monthly Archives: February 2012

Your scrapbook kit arrived a while ago. You love the products in it. You can’t wait to get started. But somehow…no matter how excited you are to create something new and beautiful…you can’t seem to decide what you’re going to do! It’s a wildly popular conundrum amongst artists everywhere. It happens. You aren’t alone and you aren’t broken. The first step is to get started anyway. You don’t know what you want to do? Let someone else tell you. Check out this layout by Valerie O’Neall called oh Oh OH and see about making a version of your own. You’ll love it and once you’ve finished your own adaptation of the project…you’ll definitely be on a roll.

The oh Oh OH 12×12 layout by Valerie O’Neall using the Little Black Dress Kit Club February scrapbook kit called Life’s a Game:

So sing along to my stereo…I love this moment that Valerie captured. And I love that she documented the song title and the group. And…if I’m not mistaken, the lyrics are serving as some really fun journaling alongside the photos of this little “jammer.”

Closeups are a definite must for this one…

stitching, stamping, layering…this closeup has a lot going on…check it out!

I truly, truly want to steal Valerie’s creative mind for coming up with this particular part of the 12×12 layout. Her paper backed photos also serve as a “lift the flap” leading to additional typed up journaling. I’m all a flutter at how amazing this addition is to the layout.

And as an extra Valerie bonus…check out this gift tag (or really…any…tag) that Valerie put together using her kit products this month. I love putting together gift tags like this because they’re usually small enough so that I can use the pieces that I would normally not feel were large enough to keep around for later projects. We call this Valerie’s Oh Happy Day Gift Tag. I would definitely enjoy seeing it on top of any gift I were to receive. Well done, Valerie!

Hello VALERIE! What a handsome little man and what a handsome scrapbook layout. We love it. No, we adore it! This layout is worthy of complete adoration. It simply can’t be described in words…you must see it for yourself. If you haven’t yet studied the many fun details Valerie incorporated here, you’re in for a treat!

The Handsome 12×12 layout from Valerie O’Neall using the Life’s a Game Kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club:

Awh…crazy how handsome that little guy is. He makes the page. But…it’s not all little Lucas. A lot of it is Valerie’s knack to create something fabulous! Things to consider: her use of the paper to create rays out from the photo, her use of complimentary papers to create chevrons on the “rays”, her use of paints to create dimension and texture and a fun splash of blue, her use of the trim as bordering, and her simple journaling (keeping it simple can be the best way to go depending on the layout and the photos).

Never miss checking this one out up close!

Valerie, Valerie, Valerie…we love you more every month. Here you can see a little more detail. It becomes clear that she used stitching to further accentuate the design the created with the paper radiating out from her photo. You can get a close up look at the trim combo in the upper left corner, too. And, of course, you can do some intimate staring at the gorgeous color she added with the white/blue paints.

Thanks for sharing your talent with us, Valerie! And members looking for more projects from Valerie should check out the LBD Facebook page or watch for further posts here on the LBD Blog.

So you got your scrapbook kit this month and you’re not sure exactly what you want to do with it. You might make a mini album. You need to restock your supply of greeting cards, but you also really need to finish up the last 12×12 scrapbook album you started. Where to begin? We suggest you start with the WILD things. Get them in hand and the rest will fall into place.

Wild Things 12×12 layout by Tina Walker, LBD Kit Club Life’s a Game kit - February 2012:

Awh. We all want to see some things that are still out there…running wild. (I have my moments when I wish I could be out there running wild myself). This month we have the pleasure of taking a closer look at Tina’s layout dedicating to a moment reflecting on a few “wild things” and you’re going to want to look a little closer so you can catch all the details:

My favorite parts of this layout are the unique pairing of the wild with the frilly lace and the craving for adventure with the need to document the moment in an organized fashion. It struck a note in me and I really like the unique presentation that this layout gives the viewer. But that’s getting a little serious. Moving on…

Bits and pieces not to miss: quote cards (watch for these in your kits, they can add a lot with very little effort on your part), cutouts (a lot of scrappers enjoy adding punches of color by using their own punches and cutting tools to create varying shapes using their patterned and textured papers…play with the idea if you haven’t yet), stitching (again…you’ve seen it and you’ve liked it. If you haven’t tried it, quite putting it off! You can use a regular sewing machine or buy simple and easy to use handheld tools at your local scrapbooking store). Don’t be scared to add new textures to the page or to let things leap off the page. The addition of the blue lace is probably my very most favorite addition to the entire page simply because it isn’t the obvious choice!

It’s another layout from Tina Walker, but this month is special ladies and gentlemen. This month is Tina’s last official month on the Littile Black Dress Kit Club design team. We’ll miss her desperately and will probably harass her about guest designing now and then. But for now…check out a few more of her fabulous layouts full of fun and fancy ideas that will get your mind spinning for your upcoming projects.

Here’s her Dad 12×12 layout using the Life’s a Game Kit from LBD Kit Club in Feb. 2012:

I love that Tina created a linear focal point leading the eye to the photo in the upper right hand corner. Look at all that gorgeous detail! It’s so delectable and yummy that it’s making me hungry! You MUST see closeups:

Stitching, rhinestones, buttons, paper strips, borders…she’s got it all here.

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my dad. I LOVE that! Such a sweet and simple and telling quote to place on the page. I adore so much about this page, but the words on it are a big part of what I heart! Also…adding to the fun are the fact that she’s got the “typed” font going on, the jewels (rhinestones) placed around the page, the stitching offering a frame there, but not keeping it confined (as is apparent in the opposite corner), etc.

Mmmmm. Isn’t this layout heavenly? You’ve got the same stuff in your kit…put something together and send it in (sarah at littleblackdresskitclub.com) and we’ll add it to our Member Submissions photo album on Facebook. So fun!

And watch for more projects from Tina this month! This is only one of several.

Isn’t it fantastic that no matter what…babies are adorable. In fact, even when they have yoghurt all over their faces, they are still handsome. Some might even go so far as to say they are still gorgeous! Francine caught one of those lovely moments in this 12×12 layout idea using the Life’s A Game kit from Little Black Dress Kit Club in February 2012.

Check out the fabulous laying of the titling alphas, the scalloped paper edge and the banner that Francine created using two of the papers from the Feb. kit. She finished it off by stitching the banner across the top. Love it!

Here you can see how Francine contained her journaling with a paper border. Check out her handwritten journaling mixed with word stickers from the kit. I love tiny details like that. They add a lot to the page.

Here’s a closeup of the photos that inspired this particular layout as well as the titling alphas across the top of the 12×12 layout.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Check back for more ideas on scrapbooking at the LBD Facebook page, LBD on Twitter, LBD on Pinterest or here on the blog…more projects to come soon!

DETAILS from Francine Clouden:

Yoghurt Face Boy: This page is based on a sketch by Becky Fleck (details on my blog here http://francineclouden.typepad.com/callaloo_soup/2012/02/sister-sketch-yoghurt-face-boy.html) I used the word stickers within my journaling to cover up a mistake I made!
