Monthly Archives: May 2011

We’ve all got our favorite accessories whether it be rings, necklaces, heels, purses, scarves or…..HATS! And if you’re a guy…hat is the more likely option in this grouping. And we absolutely approve of this 12×12 layout Leslie put together commemorating the lasting nature of this particular “guy’s” preference for the traditional baseball hat.

Layering, cut out’s, a mixture of alphas, journaling,…this layout has all the elements necessary to make it fun and functional. And possibly most impressive is the fact that this is a “through time” layout demonstrating the lasting nature of the “style preferences!”  For this guy…”It’s the HAT THAT matters” no matter how old.

Here in the closeup you can see the journaling area that Leslie created using strips of paper from the May I’m Smitten kit and a a closeup of teh stars that she created out of different paper design (you can use your favorite star punch or cutting machine). You can ink your stars, stamp them up, bend them, pop them, layer them, etc.

Have a preferred accessory that deserves documentation through scrapbooking? Get on it…Leslie’s Hat layout can serve as inspiration or you can just use your May I’m Smitten kit to put together a version of your own. Document your own “style!”

I’m thinking I need to scrapb0ok/document my secret love for rings…or heels…or braids…does that  count? Well, regardless…you know what I’m talking about. What are you going to “document?”

Still have a hankering to put something fun and sweet together with your LBD kit for May? We’ve got another idea to send your way. Almost all of us have our favorite “Little Bitty” person. And this layout is all about making them stand out from the crowd. Feature your Little Bitty by putting together a layout using Tina’s as a guide today:

Tina’s Little Bitty 12×12 Layout:

Awwww….RIGHT? This layout is just so perfect! I love the banner. I love the popped flowerws. I love the background paper. I love the corrugated cardboard background. I love the darker background behind the background. I love the houndstooth tissue paper accents. I love it!

And don’t you just love the black, glitter alpha stickers from the I’m Smitten May kit?

We all love our Pop dots, but we’re not talking about your typical Pop Dots here. Tina’s got a fantastic project for you. She calls it Pop Dots art…and you’ll see why here in just a second!

Here’s the Pop Dots Wall Art tutorial from Tina!

1.       Decide on a frame size.  You can use whatever size and configuration that you want.  I used a 12×22 frame with 3 5×7 openings.
If this is a newly purchased frame, remove the ‘fake people picture’ insert (is that what they are called?) and use this as a guide.  If you are using an old frame, cut a piece of paper the entire size of the frame, so in my example a 12×22 size of paper.

2.       Choose your background paper and cut to size.  (I cut 3 5×7 pieces)  I used the yummy Glitz paper from the Little Black Dress May kit for my background.

3.       Choose your ‘Pop Dot” paper. Again, I used paper from the May Kit.  The October Afternoon “Five & Dime” collection was perfect for this.
4.       Choose your ‘circle frame’ paper.  I used the reverse side of the ‘pop dot’ paper.

5.       Punch out your circles.  I used a 1 ½ scallop punch and punched 6 circles per opening.  (A total of 18 circles)

6.       Ink the outside of each ‘Circle Frame’ and the outside of each punched circle.
7.       Adhere the ‘Circle Frame’ to the Background paper, and adhere both papers to the paper you cut in step #1. (the large 12×22 piece of paper, or ‘fake people’ template)
8.       Stitch all three together, by stitching around the ‘Circle Frame”.
9.       Adhere pop dots to the back of each scalloped circle and place in the punched opening on the ‘circle frame’.

10.   Place ART in frame and ENJOY!

Tina loves this project not only because it looks fabulous on the wall, but because it’s quick and easy! We hope you love it!

Sugar and spice and everything nice…that’s what little girls are made of. And that’s what we’ll always think of our little girls, right? Even when they somehow morph over night into grown up beauties that are not interested in playing dolls or patty cake anymore. Most of us who are dedicated to the scrapbooking world take special pains to document those sweet years that seem to fly by so fast. But I think more of us need to take a page out of Leslie’s book and remember that just because our little girls (or our little men) grow up doesn’t mean they are any less sweet. That’s just one of the reasons that I love this page Leslie put together. And I love that she titled it Sugar & Spice because even thought this particular little girl is all grown up…she’s still someone’s little girl!

Sugar & Spice 12×12 Layout:

Aspects of the page we love?

- Handwritten journaling; so personal and lovely and effective all at once.

- Splashes of bright color against the light background; it draws the focus to the photo where it belongs.

- The gorgeous flowers! Love the inclusion of the leaves, 3D style.

- The trims incorporated alongside the papers bordering the photo.

All the products used for Leslie’s Sugar & Spice 12×12 layout came from LBD Kit Club’s May, I’m Smitten, Kit.

Have a little girl who isn’t so little anymore? Take a page out of Leslie’s book and feature her in all her loveliness. :)

I want a month of my own. I’d immediately claim my birthday month, but I think having a month that is “My Month” should have some sort of historically lucky significance or something so I’m going to hold off on declaring “my month” until I’ve paid attention for a bit. I want to get this right. It’s not like declaring my favorite color of the day is blue and that my teal heels are my current most fabulous. My Month will be a little bit more long lasting. So I require a bit of time to ponder. So you have a “Month” that is just “YOURS?”

Francine does…and it’s May! She put together is May is My Month 12×12 layout using May’s I’m Smitten kit from LBD Kit Club. Check it out:

I love a good self portrait project. Don’t you? And this one is accented by several amazing butterly cutouts that are just different enough to make me zoom in and take a second look. Francine used the teeny teal alphas to create her title, “May is My Month” and then created a space on the page for journaling using all her vintage pieces, embellishments, etc. from her kit. I love that she didn’t particularly add a “piece” to the layout to journal on, but instead left a space without a “piece” for her journaling that is created by the other elements on the page. Love that idea.

Here you can see the 3d element of her butterflies as well as some of the fun and fabulous layering that went on to give the page its final look. you can also see that she added fun little elements to the butterflies making them more unique and gorgeous.

So…what’s your month? Tell us all. Why’s it your month? What’s your month’s claim to fame? Luck? Sentiment? Historic significance? Tradition?

You can’t have May. May is Francine’s month. So get your own!
