Monthly Archives: October 2010

Layouts, layouts, layouts…you can’t really get enough layout ideas for the basic 12×12 layout! Here’s another fabulous layout from Francine using the Little Black Dress October Romance at Dusk kit:

This is Francine’s 12×12 Challenge Layout.

Francine’s “big picture” is always pleasurable. The overall look of the page always seems to be pleasing to the eye. She may just have a knack for placement, but if you’d like to get a little of that in your own layouts…try laying things out prior to adhering them. Or you can get adventurous…you can buy one of the “undo” products that allow you to adhere to the page and then change your mind and “undo” what you’ve already glued!

I love how Francine placed the Glitz Design Vintage Wings butterfly rubon right on top of her fantastic layering of the black/white tissue and the yellow/lace trim. The messy pleats in the tissue paper give it an extra bit of dimension, too.

In this close up you can see some of Francine’s journaling right on one of the stickers from the Glitz Design vintage journaling sticker pack. I love handwritten journaling. I think it makes it that much more personal!

Notice how Francine added Jenni Bowlin chalkboard tile alphas in the “midst” of the American Craft Thickers (black and glittery). It’s such a fun and clean look at the same time. And that’s kind of a difficult combo to achieve! My 2010 Challenge…by Francine!

How many of us have stumbled upon an impromptu self portrait photo shoot when we went to download pictures. It’s a universal temptation when a kid sees a camera laying there unguarded and in the open. And what do they tend to take pictures of…themselves!

So why not record that little feeling of empowerment and slight vanity with a layout featuring the next series of “self portraits” you run across?

Ginger used a string of 3 “self portraits” as the focus for this layout. She backed each one with matching paper from the kit and then placed a larger “background” paper behind the three ph0tos. The lighter pattern made it possible for her to journal right on the page (bottom right corner) and makes the black accents really stand out (flower and trim included in the October kit).

I love the tiny  bit of yellow trim added. It’s a fun splash of color and coordinates with the slightly more mellow “yellows” that are in the paper and the Jenni Bowlin chalkboard alpha tiles.

Thanks Ginger! Always love your layouts! Keep them coming. :)

I absolutely adore this12x12  layout Jan sent in titled I Can Be a Witch. I think I mostly adore it because…can’t we all? Be a witch, that is.

Have you ever been trying on witch costumes with your sister in preparation for Halloween and realized mid-way through that you were actually reflecting the essence of your outfit too truly? Well…it happens to the best of us. But in this case…it wasn’t the outfit making its mark. It was the fact that this sister had not yet had her morning coffee. Which, again, DOES happen. So we should all be on the lookout for tell tale signs before the WITCH gets too in control of the situation.

To document this lovely (warts and all) event, Jan together this awesome layout. You’ll notice her use of a variety of the October kit papers, vintage number and time cards, Jenni Bowlin chalkboard alpha tiles in yellow, a selection of trims from the kit, the glittery black Thickers and some terrific die cuts. See if you can find them all: a witch on a broom, a cauldron, a moon, stars, and a fence. You’ll also probably notice that Jan added a bit of vintage ephemera to the grouping of die cuts and it adds just the right touch.

Thanks Jan! You’ve got me in the mood to get my WITCH on!

If you’re looking for a fun way to create some new Halloween decor using your Romance at Dusk kit…gather some ideas and inspiration from this adorable and fun project created by Jan H! She put this decorative cone together using products from the October Kit:

I love this idea of creating a bit of Halloween decor out of the kit. It’s always fun to have something fun and personal to take out seasonally.

In this closeup picture you can see more of what Jan did to give the Halloween cone some detail. She used some of the trim from the kit at the top of the cone and created a backed “trick or treat” title that is just, oh, so appropriate for the current holiday!

And if greeting cards are more your style…we’ve got a few fabulous options for you to check out below.

This Happy Birthday card was put together by Amy Heller using her October kit. We love the layering! She incorporated several different pieces from the kit including the Glitz Design Vintage Wings rubons (butterfly), some vintage pieces (buttons, etc.) and the American Cract Thickers in glittery black. Then, of course, there are the papers…

In this closeup you can see just how fabulous the Thickers are, the black zig zag stitch that Amy used to hold everything together both literally and figuratively, and a little bit of layering detail.

This closeup really shows off a few of the vintage pieces that were incorporated as well as Amy’s trick of backing and cutting out the Glitz Design butterfly rub on so she could adhere it with its wings free to draw attention! Love it.

This Halloween greeting card comes to you from Francine. She saved one of our favorite flowers from the kit for this spooky little addition. And it turned out fabulously. Also incorporated into this card design is an owl rubon from the Glitz Design Vintage Wings rubon set, several papers, Jenni Bowlin chalkboard alpha tiles, and a selection of trim from the kit.

Check out the card in more detail here in this closeup. You can see how Francine layered the products to give the finished look. Happy Halloween and Spooky Greetings!

This is Francine’s 12×12 layout titled Waiting for Lunch. One of the main elements (besides the main point…pictures!) is the flash card. Each kit this month had a “time” flash card included. Francine’s was perfect for this layout since it was 11:25. Another element of this layout that I think makes it special is the fact that Francine not only layered her embellishments/journaling, but she also layered the photos. I think it adds something extra!

This close up shows the Francine’s journaling (right on the flash card’s white space under the time), the title of the layout in Jenni Bowlin Chalkboard yellow alpha tiles, and some of the Glitz Design embellishments included in the kit (Vintage Wings rubons, the owl, and chipboard stickers).

Notice here how Francine used the vintage book page from the kit to give the page and extra layer without distracting from the title or journaling by turning the page perpendicular to the other “writing” on the layout.

Here you can see an additional journaling spot that Francine added to the left side of the layout (Glitz Design journaling stickers, vintage). I always appreciate how thorough Francine is with her journaling. I hate when I put a project together and I didn’t put all the details on it assuming I would remember. I never do!

More project pics…coming soon!
